Getting going!

So, here I am, all excited to be at the beginning of the beginning of this awesome trip! Despite looking down my leg and seeing an ankle that is, despite the new hardware holding it together, undeniably broken, I am confident that these news screws will be pedaling every one of the 3543 miles from Jacksonville, Florida to San Francisco, California. In fact, that very thought is about the only thing keeping this couch jockey sane in the midst of his convalescence. That and a growing stack of books. 

There's a great deal to said about the tremendous support I've received in fundraising so far, and also, naturally, about the raison d'etre for this trip itself-- providing affordable housing to low-income citizens! These will be topics for several future posts, but, given all that we know now, isn't it difficult not to appreciate how critical it is that working people in our society be able to afford a decent home that doesn't cost them the better part of their hard-earned wages? Think about it.
